Sydney Road Apartments, Coburg
The proposed design response for these apartments in Coburg, considers characteristic modesty, materiality and connectivity to the existing surrounding context. The design pays respect to and synchronizes with the character of the urban realm. The proposed design response is a continuation of the storey of this streetscape. The façade uses red bricks to pay homage to the adjacent existing heritage building, previously the historic “Hygenic Bread Factory”. The façade also picks up on colours of the existing streetscape and context. Bright coloured yellow downpipes and circular rain heads – or “golden pies” - celebrate fenestration and decoration much like the adjacent Hygenic Bread Factory.
